Obama President Elect 2008

Obama President Elect 2008

Barack Obama is the new President Elect and faces taking on the crisis of economics and the challenged reputation of our ailing nation. While the world rejoices at America’s choice, many critical areas of life will demand attention. Obama is giving his first focus to the people and the need for a stimulation package to create jobs and ease the general anxiety of the thousands of family facing dramatic financial impact from the Wall Street fallout.

Obama’s influence on the shift happening in America comes from his personal experiences. He is not a silver-spoon aristocrat. He brings personal experience of being different from the majority of his neighbors and peers growing up in Hawaii. He was raised by a single mother, and with the support of loving grandparents. He is of mixed race and born at the time of America’s drama of the civil rights movement. Our social themes are reflective of the events of 1965 to 1967. We should look at this as the maturing process of the larger social choices that create this level of world change.

The time of Obama’s acceptance speech in Grant Park, in Chicago brought people to tears. The chart of this time reflects that Obama will put his strongest intentions on influencing the quality of life for Americans who are the backbone of this country. We may finally have a President, a leader of the American people who is one of the people.

The connections between the chart of Obama’s acceptance of the Presidency and his natal chart have many direct contacts. The planet most aspected by the event in Obama’s natal chart is his Mars. Mars is the planet of action and motivation. Over the next several months, transiting Saturn and its dance with Uranus intensify in contact to Obama’s Mars. Transiting Jupiter is in contact to Obama’s Mars as the support of the creative element of opportunity and the backing of Congress. There is hope that Congress can work in a bipartisan agreement that focuses on the best for the people and gives much less support to big money lobbyist. Obama knows the anxiety of the people. A large percentage of America’s adults make much less than the $250,000 a year. Obama knows the struggle of raising a family with little resources and lacking the health insurance to meet crisis needs. These are his priorities for the beginning of his term.

The Inauguration chart for January 20, 2009 has the promise of improved international relations. The potential for peace is strong in this chart. There are problems to face in the transition, but Obama has the intelligence and problem-solving style of thinking that will bring a strong approach to healing the country.

Election Day

Election Day

There is so much potent energy as the Presidential campaign edges to Election Day. One very striking astrological feature about this election is the heavy emphasis on the sign of Aquarius. The Candidates each have personal planets in Aquarius, especially Sarah Palin. She has both her Sun and Moon, along with Mercury, Mars and Saturn in Aquarius. This gives her a very cool, intellectual, and outspoken personality. You can add the theatrical sparkle of Leo rising and you have a person who believes she is “right.” John McCain has his Moon in early Aquarius, near Sarah’s Moon and Mercury. This makes it easy for the two to follow the same lines of communication and to be in easy agreement on a personal level. McCain’s Sun is Virgo, which gives him a tendency to fret and worry. His Sun/Moon combination easily becomes frustrated and wants to react to every slight.

Barack Obama has the opposite combination from Sarah Palin, with his Sun in Leo and Aquarius as his rising sign, with Jupiter in Aquarius. The difference of expression is that Obama’s leadership qualities are more inclusive and in service to improving the quality of life for everyone. Obama’s Mars, the planet of will and action, are in strategic, service-oriented Virgo. While Sarah’s militaristic combination of the Sun, with Mars and Saturn, give her a stance of being ready to fight or to compete. Both have the Sun near the sunset place, which brings a focus of social influence, involvement with others, and with negotiating. Barack’s Sun is actually in the house of service. The Leo Sun personality has warmth and charm and the focus becomes leadership in serving the greater good. His Aquarian Ascendant wants to reach out in friendship and give information, and work for consensus.

Aquarius is the sign of knowledge, friendship, brotherhood, and equality. In some instances, Aquarius, an air sign, can be very busy with ideas and information and not very attentive to feelings. It is in fact, considered cold and detached. On the other hand, Aquarius upholds the ideals of fairness and equality. As Obama’s approach to life, we see his friendly smile and his desire to bring people together.

Obama has Jupiter, the planet of inspiration and expansiveness, in very early Aquarius, near his Saturn in Capricorn. Saturn represents the internalized ideas of how to be socially acceptable, and the rules of life. These planets offer Obama the talent of rational, logical orientation to life. Jupiter is the planet of scholars, legislators, and those who inspire others. Saturn is the planet of discipline and order, which is strong in its own sign of Capricorn. The combination illustrates Obama’s connection with the deeper aspects of life. These qualities are very different than we find with John McCain.

John McCain has Sun in Virgo, with dreamy Neptune and Venus. These planets with the Sun give McCain that quality of a down-to-earth, nice guy, who likes to be liked. His rising sign is Pisces, with Saturn in the first house in Pisces. This gives a very soft demeanor, quite in contrast to his running mate, Sarah, “the barracuda.” Sarah was born during the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in Virgo. These are the potent planets of revolution and social transformation. We saw their influence on society in 1964 to 1966. These ‘power’ planets in Sarah’s chart connect directly with John’s Sun/Neptune. If they ran the country together, we could expect Sarah to be charging on some strong programs. Sarah’s Sun/Mars/Saturn sit just above John’s Ascendant, in his 12th house. She will make a strong ruler from the background. She may have many plans for how she wants to shape the power of the Presidency.

The other pair of Candidates has more of a shared working relationship with equal respect. Joe Biden’s birth time is unknown, but the planetary group of his Scorpio planets gives good support to Obama’s Midheaven, the career area of the chart. Joe has Mars, Mercury, and Venus surrounding his Sun. This gives him good powers of reason and discussion. He does not have the flare of the other three candidates, but he has the qualities of a reformer and revolutionary in his own right. Joe Biden was born with Saturn and Uranus together in Gemini. These planets connect with Obama’s Moon, which gives him additional influence when discussing important issues. Biden and Obama have connections between their charts that support each man’s theme of leadership focused on the cause of improving life for others.
